Is exposure important?

OK this not about indecently exposing myself (or anyone for that matter)!

I am talking about exposure in the sense of raising your profile within your work place so like the bosses/upper management knows of you or at least that you exist. I was chatting with a colleague of mine whom I just gotten to know is leaving the company soon, for greener pastures no doubt heh. We are talking about this because another colleague and myself is supposed to do a presentation in 2 weeks time for the monthly unit meeting and he says we must be well prepared because it would be good exposure for us to our director.

He has even suggested us to read a book on how to present effectively, but I guess I just can't be bothered! Bad or not? LOL. I told him I think I will just "wing" it, I believe my current presentation skill still can cut it :P

Realistically I have to agree with him exposure is important. Imagine a big company, so many people going for promotion but in the end who are those that are promoted? You have to agree that those who are "visible" to the bosses, those who "get noticed" will more likely get it! If the person is really good at their work, I can say they deserve it. What annoys me most sometimes are those who only knows how to talk (in front of the bosses) but actually does nothing, the all "talk and no work" type. To most bosses they are just as visible, unfortunate but it's working life!

Sadly I am not so much into the work socialising scene, seldom join the big bosses for drinks or whatever minggling session, prefer to do my own things! Man this is not looking good for Resolution no. 4 haha. I believe if I were to be put into a socialising situation it will not be a problem for me at all (confident sia :P) but I guess it's my character that I am not proactive about it. Like I told my colleague who happens to be like me, it's all about changing the mindset... which I am happy to leave as it is now :)

Raining again now, wonder if I can switch to my sleeping mindset -zZz-
